Knox teacher steps into role of Lynn Camp Middle/High principal

After 18 years of serving the students and community of Knox County Schools as both a teacher and coach, Todd Merida is energized to be leading and cheering on the Lynn Camp Wildcats.

“I am thrilled, deeply honored, and energized by this opportunity to lead a school with such a rich history in athletics and education,” said Merida after the announcement of being the head principal.

Prior to working at his current school, Knox Learning Academy, he taught 7th and 8th grade mathematics at Knox County Middle School. His experience at the Learning Academy has had Lynn Camp connections.  “I have worked daily for the past five years with students from across the county, including those from Lynn Camp ,” reflected Merida. “I look forward to getting to know each student by name and being there to build a culture where each student counts.”

“From the very beginning of my career, I have been passionate about education and the positive impact it can have on young people’s lives. Over the years, I have had the privilege of working alongside some of the most dedicated educators, coaches, and staff members who share this same commitment.

“Now, as I step into this new role, I am excited to continue that work at Lynn Camp, building on the solid foundation that has been established and guiding our school to even greater heights.”

Merida knows the importance of the school to the community and its many alumni, some of which recall tales of attending the old Lynn Camp School.

“Lynn Camp Middle/High School has always been a special place, known for its strong sense of community and pride. To all the current and former Wildcats, I want you to know that I am here for you. My goal is to ensure that Lynn Camp remains a place where you are challenged, inspired, and prepared for whatever path you choose in life. I am grateful for the trust you have placed in me, and I promise to give my all to help you succeed.”

While the new school year has been underway for a few weeks, Merida is coming into the position with high hopes for what the school can achieve together in the months ahead.

“By fostering a positive, collaborative environment, I believe we can create a school where students not only excel academically but also grow as individuals who are ready to take on the world. At the end of this first year, I want to see a school that is thriving, where students and staff alike are proud of what we have accomplished together.”

Merida’s family has connections to teaching and learning in Knox County.

“My wife Dana is a teacher at Flat Lick Elementary and together we have four children.  Jordan Phipps is the oldest and recently graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with a degree in Business Administration.  Bryna Jacobs, is a senior at Knox Central High School and will graduate in May 2025.  Bella Jacobs, is Freshman at Knox Central High School and our youngest is Blakely Jacobs, a 7th grader at Knox County Middle.  They are all very excited and eager to begin this new journey with me.”

He views his new role as principal more than just a position, it is a calling. “I am excited to lead Lynn Camp Middle/High School and to work alongside our dedicated staff, engaged students, and supportive community. Together, I know we can achieve great things. Go Wildcats!”
