
The Knox County Board of Education held its regular monthly meeting on Thursday, August 28, opening with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence led by Pastor Russell Jones of Northside Baptist Church.
Superintendent Jeremy Ledford shared district updates during his report to the Board, and Scott Noel, with Summit Engineering, provided progress reports on ongoing and future facility projects.
The Board approved routine consent items, including financial reports, personnel actions, maintenance updates, field trips, fundraisers, and community use of district facilities.
Facilities and Operations: The Board approved a change order and pay applications for Knox County Middle School and Lynn Camp Middle/High School construction projects, accepted bids for roof and canopy replacements at KCMS, surplus of a property item, and HVAC system testing and balancing services.
Teaching and Learning: Members approved the annual dual credit agreement with Southeast Kentucky Community & Technical College, special education and 504 chairperson assignments, an emergency substitute teacher hire, Read to Achieve grant assurances, two shortened school week/day waivers for students with special needs, and a new speech therapy services agreement.
Support Services: The Board approved agreements with Adult Education and Kentucky Behavioral Health, staffing and interpreter services, the use of DocuSign for district documents, and external school club agreements for the new school year.
Other Business: The Board approved the Knox-Barbourville City contract for bus repairs, a sports training services agreement, tax rates for 2025–2026, and a settlement agreement for damaged property. The Board also approved a letter of certification for the Career & Technical Center property acquisition and the purchase of the General Dynamics building, which will be submitted to the Kentucky Department of Education for final approval before the District can proceed.
