The new school year is just a little over one month away, and we’re excited to welcome everyone back. As we prepare for the new year together, here are a few important updates:
- First day of school: Monday, August 24
- The full 2026-2027 academic year calendar is on our website’s calendar page.
- New school hours: Please note that our daily start and end times have slightly changed as a result of the variable calendar, which allows for a later school start date.
Central Elementary begins at 7:50 am and ends at 3:10 pm.
Dewitt Elementary begins at 7:50 am and ends at 3:10 pm.
Flat Lick Elementary begins at 7:50 am and ends at 3:10 pm.
Girdler Elementary begins at 7:50 am and ends at 3:10 pm.
G.R. Hampton Elementary begins at 7:50 am and ends at 3:10 pm.
Lay Elementary begins at 7:50 am and ends at 3:10 pm.
Lynn Camp Elementary begins at 7:50 am and ends at 3:10 pm.
Knox County Middle School begins at 7:50 am and ends at 2:55 pm.
Knox Central High School begins at 7:50 am and ends at 2:55 pm.
Lynn Camp Middle/High School begins at 7:55 am and ends at 3:00 pm.
- School supply lists: Back-to-school supply lists will be posted on our website in early August.

Scheduled back to school events, including registration, can be found on the school district’s calendar of events at https://www.kcps.events. Returning student registration will not take place prior to the scheduled date. Any students entering Knox County Public Schools for the first time from out of state, home school, or private school, may contact the school for additional information or attend the event.
