Amelia Podsada receives award from Knox Board as part of STLP’s successful season

At the May meeting of the Knox County Board of Education, Amelia Podsada, a student at Knox County Middle School, was recognized for her outstanding achievement in the Student Technology Leadership Program (STLP). Amelia earned second place at the state level, an accomplishment that also earned her the honor of being recognized on stage at the state competition. Her project was part of the digital storytelling competition and was named “Little Treasures.”

This year, STLP has showcased the creativity, leadership, and technological prowess of Knox County students. Across eight participating schools, a total of 149 students engaged in a wide array of tech-driven projects and leadership activities, leaving a strong impression at both the regional and state levels.

Five schools extended their reach beyond club meetings by promoting school-wide digital and leadership activities, engaging even more students in meaningful, tech-forward initiatives. These events reflect STLP’s growing role in promoting digital citizenship and school pride.

All eight schools reported having teams participate in innovative projects—from digital literacy and school safety to communication platforms like podcasts and live broadcasts. Impressively, 49 students represented Knox County in CDA (Community Development Activities), a key STLP component recognizing advanced tech leadership.

“What truly sets this year apart are the outstanding achievements on the regional and state STLP”, shared Jennifer Mills, technology integration specialist and STLP program coach.

Eight schools shared recognition stories of student-led projects that received top marks and accolades. From state level to projects scoring over 90 points, students have shown that their ideas and execution rival those of peers across the state.

“The results speak volumes about the dedication of our students and their STLP coaches,” said Mills. “They’re not just learning how to use technology—they’re using it to solve problems, inspire change, and lead their peers.”

“STLP remains a cornerstone program, preparing students for the future by encouraging collaboration, creativity, and community impact.”
