Students learn that reading is fundamental

The roar of students welcomed Clifford, The Big Red Dog, to elementary schools across Knox County during the month of September.

Clifford and his guests visited students to teach them that Reading is Fundamental through storytelling and a special gift.

Reading is Fundamental is an outreach component of the Barbourville Junior Woman’s Study Club in partnership with the school district’s Family Resource Centers.  Characters, such as Clifford, make up to three visits a year to first grade classrooms to bring a storybook to life.  After the story is read to them by a member of the study club, students pick out a Scholastic book for them to keep as their own.  Reading is Fundamental is provided at no cost to schools.
