Girdler’s FRYSC is two time Mask-On, Face-Off champion

Rita Wood is shown in an animal mask as part of the district contest.

To create awareness of the need for masks as part of the state’s #MaskUpKY, staff in the Knox County Public Schools submitted their own mask photo as part of a “Mask-On Face-Off” contest hosted by the Central Office.

Participants were to submit a photo of their mask or them wear their mask for both staff voting and public voting.  Staff voting occurred Monday and Tuesday with Rita Wood, FRYSC Coordinator at Girdler Elementary, winning the staff’s pick for best mask.

The public was invited to participate in the contest on Wednesday and Thursday by voting for their favorite KCPS mask.  On Friday, the results were calculated, and Wood again won the public vote.

As for the two-time, winning mask, Rita says, “I just entered to show everyone we have to make the best of what we’re dealing with.”

In the spirit of wearing masks to protect others, she will receive $200 to spend towards improving the school culture and providing resources to students at her school.

Thank you to everyone who participated.  You can see all of the entries, plus additional masks that were submitted once the contest was underway, in the kcps.photos gallery.
