Flat Lick to help South Carolina flood victims

After devastating floods in South Carolina, one Knox County school is stepping up to help.

Flat Lick Elementary has ‘adopted’ a school in Dorchester County, SC to help through their “Pack a Backpack” project. Flat Lick Elementary issued a challenge for their students to collect donations of new toys and school supplies to be distributed to their adopted school. Each week, the class that collects the most donations will receive a reward. At the end of the project, the classes with the donations will receive a movie and popcorn.

Donations will be collected until Thursday, November 5, 2015.

If you would like to help, the school asks for donations in the form of new toys and school supplies, or money (which will be used to purchase toys and supplies) via cash, change, or check. Checks should be payable to: Knox County Board of Education. It is not necessary to purchase a backpack.

Donna Welch, a fourth grade teacher at Flat Lick said, “we want to teach our students to be compassionate and serve others. We can’t help everyone, but we can help some of those in need.”
