Tony Patterson returns to KCHS basketball

Tony PattersonKnox Central High School has announced the return of Tony Patterson as head boys’ basketball coach. Patterson, who previously led the Panthers for seven consecutive seasons, brings back a legacy of discipline, hard work, and success that transformed Knox Central into one of the region’s premier programs.

During his first tenure, Patterson compiled an impressive 170-50 overall record, including seven consecutive 51st District Championships and an undefeated 35-0 record against district teams. His leadership guided the Panthers to three consecutive 13th Region Championships, three consecutive 2A Region Championships, two runner-up finishes at the 2A State Tournament, and multiple invitational tournament titles, including the prestigious WYMT Mountain Classic and the What-A-Burger/Innisfree Hotels Beach Tournament. His achievements earned him 13th Region Coach of the Year in 2018 and induction into the 13th Region Hall of Fame in 2025.

Athletic Director Tim Melton praised Patterson’s return, stating:

Coach Patterson is deeply committed to developing young men both on and off the court, always striving to help them become the best versions of themselves.”

On rebuilding the program to championship levels:
“We have a strong staff that is excited to get started and get the program back to the level we all want. Doing things the right way along with discipline will re-establish a winning culture, sharpen talent, and rebuild the system for a long period of excellence.”

Message to players, parents, and alumni:
“The players, parents, and alumni can expect an exciting atmosphere day in and day out that will prepare our young men for competition and, most importantly, life. We have a wealth of talent all the way down to the elementary level that we are very excited about and will do great things!”

On deciding to return:
“You know, God is good! Our family always lets God lead, guide, and direct our path and this was no different. God put me back here for a reason and I’m going to do the best I can for Him!”
