Knox County Public Schools was recently recognized by the Kentucky Department of Education and Southeast South-Central Educational Cooperative (SESC) for implementing its Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) systems with fidelity.
Curriculum coaches and district instructional leaders were first recognized by the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) during the Continuous Improvement Summit. KDE leads and district staff posed for a photo during the summit displaying the KDE PBIS banner.
SESC toured the district on September 25 to recognize individual schools for meeting tiers of fidelity. Dewitt Elementary, Flat Lick Elementary, Girdler Elementary, Lynn Camp Elementary and Lynn Camp Middle/High School received Tier 1 recognition. Central Elementary, G.R. Hampton Elementary, Jesse D. Lay Elementary and Knox County Middle School received Tier 2 recognition.
PBIS helps schools teach and reinforce clear behavior expectations while creating a supportive learning environment. In Kentucky, Tier 1 practices serve all students, while Tier 2 adds more focused support for students who need it. Recognition for implementation with fidelity means the schools have put these practices into place consistently throughout their building.
