Lynn Camp students celebrate FFA Week

The Lynn Camp Middle/High School chapter of Future Farmers of America is joining others in celebrating National FFA Week February 16-23, 2013.

During a chapter meeting on Wednesday, February 13, Corbin Mayor Willard McBurney joined members in signing the proclamation.    McBurney shared with students the importance of agriculture education.

During FFA week, Lynn Camp students will participate in a variety of activities including plaid day on Monday, senior citizen day on Tuesday, college game day on Wednesday, cowboy/cowgirl day on Thursday, and camo day on Friday.   With the assistance of the Knox County Farm Bureau, the chapter is also planning on distributing information to customers at the Kroger’s in Corbin about agriculture and local food production and purchasing.

This year’s FFA week is “Grow”, which celebrates the national chapter’s 80 years of tradition while eagerly anticipating the organization’s future.  The Lynn Camp chapter has 30 active members, with over 550,000 members nationally.

FFA members are the innovators and leaders of tomorrow.  Through agricultural education and hands-on learning, they are preparing for more than 300 career opportunities in the food, fiber, and natural resources industry.  At Lynn Camp their chapter advisor is Dustin Johnson.

Proclamation text:

Whereas, FFA and agricultural education provide a strong foundation for the youth of America and the future of the food, fiber and natural resources systems; and

Whereas, FFA promotes premier leadership, personal growth and career success among its members; and

Whereas, agricultural education and FFA ensure a steady supply of young professionals to meet the growing demands in the science, business and technology of agriculture; and

Whereas, the FFA motto—”learning to do, doing to learn, earning to live, living to serve”— gives direction of purpose to these students who take an active role in succeeding in agricultural education; and

Whereas, FFA promotes citizenship, volunteerism, patriotism and cooperation.

Therefore, I do hereby designate the week of February 16 through 23, 2013 as FFA Week.
