Knox students to serve as Legislative Pages

Two Knox County students will soon receive behind the scenes look at state government after being selected to serve as Legislative Pages.

Taryn Mills, a student at Central Elementary, and Lucas Lambo, a student at Girdler Elementary, were winners of the Family Resource/Youth Service Center Legislative Page contest.

These two students entered an essay about why they wanted to be page through their Family Resource Centers, and their essays were graded and they were selected to represent region 9 as legislative pages for Senator Robert Stivers and State Representative Jim Stewart.

The students will go to Frankfort on February 13 and work in the house and senate and develop an understanding of the workings of state government.

Mills and Lambo are two of 16 students selected to represent region 9, which consists of Barbourville Ind., Bell, Clay, Corbin Ind., East Bernstadt Ind., Harlan, Harlan Ind., Jackson, Knox, Laurel, Middlesboro Ind., Pineville Ind., Rockcastle, Williamsburg Ind., and Whitley schools systems. Their FRYSC coordinators are Rita Wood and Jimmy Walters.
