Knox Central swimmers are state bound

Five members from the Knox Central Swim Team have advanced to the state swimming and diving meet to be held February 24-26 at the Ralph Wright Natatorium in Louisville.The swimmers advanced to the state meet by qualifying at the regional swim meet held at Eastern Kentucky University on February 12. 

The swimmers competed against 16 other teams from the Lexington area, including some of the strongest swimming schools in the state such as Paul Laurence Dunbar, Henry Clay, Lexington Christian, Madison Central, Lexington Catholic, and Model.

Qualifying for the state meet are seniors Hanna Wright, Kendra Gray, and T.J. Brock, freshman Jessica Pope, and 8th grade student Mariah Gillespie.

Hanna Wright and Kendra Gray each qualified in individual events.   At the regional meet Wright placed 2nd in the 100 butterfly and 4th in the 100 backstroke.   Gray placed 8th in the 100 backstroke.

The swimmers also qualified in two relays.   The 200 yard freestyle relay consisted of Jessica Pope, Mariah Gillespie, Kendra Gray, and Hanna Wright.   They placed 4th in the competition.   Swimmers also qualified with a 7th place finish in the 200 yard medley relay, swam by Kendra Gray, T.J. Brock, Hanna Wright, and Jessica Pope.
