Drama students enter New Voices Young Playwrights contest

Knox County Middle School drama students, taught by Mayla McKeehan, recently entered their plays into the 2013 New Voices Young Playwrights Contest at the Actors Theatre of Louisville. They competed against 512 plays from high school and middle school students across Kentucky and Southern Indiana.

McKeehan, a teacher member of the KY Writing Project/ ATL New Voices Institute, brought special strategies for playwriting to her students this year. Although all of her eighth grade drama classes wrote 10 minute plays, McKeehan submitted the best plays to the contest.

Nine of the students will have their names printed in the New Voices Anthology as recognition of their hard work: Kytonna Murray, Savanna Gray, Monika Cedilla, Libby Vaughn, Olivia Bargo, Josh Vaughn, Antonio Lozano, Breanna Mills, and Kaitlyn Hibbard.  The honor of special recognition was awarded to Kytonna Murray.
