Jessica Penn and Robin Deaton’s kindergarten class at Central Elementary has been working on a flag to hang outside the school in support of our local troops who are currently deployed to Iraq. Among these troops is Mrs. Penn’s husband, CPT. Jason Penn, as well as many parents and close relatives of students in the Knox County schools.
All 24 of Mrs. Penn’s Kindergarten students participated in the project. They each placed their handprints together on the flag to form the red stripes.
Penn’s deployment to Iraq was originally scheduled to last up to a year, however Mrs. Penn, along with many others in our community are hoping to see their soldiers return home much earlier. CPT. Jason Penn is deployed with the 1-149th Infantry Battalion.
