The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) publicly released assessment and accountability data for the 2024-2025 school year on Nov. 19, showing students performed better in 2025 than they have in recent years across several grade levels and subjects in Knox (KCPS) and statewide.
Results are shared through a color-coded dashboard with five colors: blue, green, yellow, orange and red, in order from highest to lowest ranking.
For Knox County, those colors include Central Elementary, Dewitt Elementary, Flat Lick Elementary, G.R. Hampton Elementary, Girdler Elementary, Jesse D. Lay Elementary, Knox Central High, Knox County Middle, Lynn Camp Elementary, Lynn Camp Middle, and Lynn Camp High. Knox County has one school with data to be revised after public release. The increase in score indicates it will move from yellow to green ranking once the change is made and reported.
Kentucky’s accountability system uses six indicators. At all levels (elementary, middle and high school), these indicators include: State assessment results in reading and mathematics; State assessment results in science, social studies and writing; Quality of school climate and safety; and English learner progress. Additional indicators at the high school level include postsecondary readiness and a combination of 4-year and 5-year graduation rates.
A summary of the District’s performance, by grade levels combined follows:
| Grade Level | Overall Score | Overall Ranking |
| All Elementary Combined | 73.6 | Green |
| All Middle Combined | 72.2 | Green |
| All High School Combined | 70.4 | Yellow |
In the areas of percentages and index scores for reading and math, KDE reports that KCPS has a medium to high current year level of status change.
| Mathematics | Percentage Proficient & Distinguished Combined | Overall State Accountability Index Score |
| All Elementary Combined | 51% | 68.8 |
| All Middle Combined | 45% | 63.2 |
| All High School Combined | 44% | 62.7 |
Knox County’s high schools had reason to celebrate after reviewing the postsecondary readiness indicator for last year’s graduates. Knox Central ranked GREEN and Lynn Camp ranked BLUE for their participation in prepartory classes and assessments. This shows increases for the District from the prior year. Based on 234 students, 119 were academic ready, 174 were career ready, and several students earning both. The District’s federal indicator score was 90.2 with a total 5.1 change over prior years. KCPS state graduation rate was 89.9.
Complete accountability results for all indicators are published as part of KDE’s Open House online platform which includes the 2025 School Report Card. The address is https://reportcard.kyschools.us/. Families may also request a printed copy at the KCPS Central Office.
State Education Commissioner Robbie Fletcher commented, “At the heart of Kentucky’s accountability system is a commitment to students. “The system is designed to ensure that every learner is well-rounded, equipped with essential skills and prepared for success in college, career and beyond.”
