  • Legislative Report Week of March 21-25, 2016
The General Assembly will meet Monday through Wednesday of next week before taking a 10-day recess.   I’ve attached to this email a summary from KASA on bills that they are following that impact education.  From teacher retirement to FRYSC funding, thank you for being a voice for our students and for our future during the past few months.
  • Calendar Information
There have been no amendments to the current year calendar.  Spring Break still stands in the calendar, April 7-11, 2016.   At their April 26 meeting, the Board will have for discussion and action an item on the calendar to add days that were missed this year and prepare for the end of school.  The Board will also begin reviewing, and possibly adopt, the 2016-2017 calendar for those that are trying to plan for summer professional learning and vacations.   Ms. Bays sent an email to principals this week seeking feedback on the testing window that KCPS will follow in May.  We will communicate the testing calendar once it is determined.
  • Val-Ed Surveys begin March 28
Next week we will begin to conduct Val-Ed surveys at your school.  This is a research based evaluation tool that measures the effectiveness of school leaders by providing a detailed assessment of a principal’s behaviors. The survey is designed to help the principal become a better leader for his/her school.  This survey only takes 20-30 minutes to complete.
  • Diagnostic Review Week of April 4
After being postponed multiple times this winter, the Diagnostic Review for KCPS will occur the week of April 4.   The team from AdvancEd and the Kentucky Department of Education will conduct interviews with district and community leaders.  We are excited to share with them stories about the success and great gains we have made during the past two years since their last review of KCPS.
