Lay first overall in District Governor’s Cup

Students at Lay Elementary earned first place overall honors in this year’s District Governor’s Cup competition.

In the elementary (grade 5 and below) division, students take part in a District and Regional competition with Knox County divided into two Districts, #109 and #110.   In District #109, schools include Barbourville City,  G.R. Hampton,  Girdler,  and Lynn Camp Elementary School.  Girdler served as the host school.  In District #110, schools include Central,  Dewitt,  Flat Lick,  and Jesse D. Lay Elementary School which was the host school.

With both Districts’ overall final standings combined, students from Lay accumulated the greatest amount of points, 46.5, to place first in their District and the top overall performing Knox County team.

Elementary winners now advance to the Regional competition which will be held on March 12 at Whitley County North Elementary.
