Knox to go Pink on Friday

Students and staff in the Knox County Public Schools will be going pink this Friday to create awareness for breast cancer research and to show support for survivors and those currently diagnosed with the disease.

In recognition of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the school district has planned Friday’s “pink-out” day as a way to support local cancer patients as well.

Employees are encouraged to donate a minimum of $5 on Friday to be able to wear pink and jeans to work.  Funds raised will be donated to the Knox County Cancer Patient Fund.

Since 2002 the Knox County Cancer Patient Fund has assisted hundreds of Knox County patients with transportation and meal costs associated with treatment that they receive out of the area.  In recent months the fund has experienced a drop in active participation and individual donations.

Donations to the Knox County Cancer Patient Fund may be sent directly to Hometown Bank where the organization has established an account.   Cash donations within the school district on Friday will be collected by school bookkeepers and deposited into the Cancer Patient Fund account.
