Students from across the Knox County Public Schools, Barbourville Independent, and Corbin Independent districts competed virtually in this year’s Sixth Grade Showcase.
The annual academic competition is designed to provide a competitive opportunity for Kentucky’s sixth graders, who are sometimes “lost” between elementary (4-5) and middle grades (6-8) Governor’s Cup competition. While the sixth-grade students will not advance to a regional or state competition, they will earn the bragging rights for their school and district.
This year’s showcase took place at each student’s school, with coaches helping to facilitate the live virtual event utilizing Quiz Bowl online platform that works with video conferencing software. Students were able to remain physically distant from each other at their school while all coming together to make the showcase possible.
Knox County is separated into two sections by the Kentucky Association of Academic Competition. Section 26 includes Barbourville City School, Corbin Middle School, Girdler Elementary School, and Lynn Camp Elementary School. Section 27 includes Central Elementary School, Dewitt Elementary School, Flat Lick Elementary School, G.R. Hampton Elementary School, and Jesse D. Lay Elementary School.
