Regarding:  Verbal threat made on campus

Knox Central students and families,

This statement is to provide you with accurate information, discourage rumors, and to ask for your assistance.

During fifth period today, Thursday, September 30, a student reported to school leadership that a verbal threat had been made during their first period class.  The alleged verbal threat was that a student said they would use a gun at school if they had one.

Once the school was made aware of the threat, our school resource officers immediately responded and started their investigation.  The student is in their custody for questioning and statements are being collected from other students who were in the same first period classroom.  Appropriate disciplinary actions will be taken as stated in our Student Code of Conduct as well as action by law enforcement.  The student will not be at school on Friday.

We encourage all families to remind their children of the importance of immediately reporting any threats.  Threatening and offensive language, regardless of tone or meaning, and regardless of location, are serious.  Talk to your children now and impress upon them the seriousness of threats in school and in today’s society.

The safety of our students and staff is our number one priority, and we will continue to be vigilant.  We will also be transparent in notifying you of incidents in the school district.

If you have any questions please call Knox Central at 606-546-9253 or the district’s central office at 606-546-3157.
