Education commissioner appoints new school board member

The Knox County Public Schools received notification from the Kentucky Department of Education on Thursday regarding the decision of who will be appointed to represent District #4 as school board member.

Dr. William T. Ashburn will join the Knox County Board of Education to finish out the term in the vacant board seat which is on the ballot for election in November.

The appointment was made by Kentucky Education Commissioner Stephen Pruitt.  A panel selected by the Commissioner interviewed five candidates for vacancy.  The panel submitted their interview notes and recommendation to the Commissioner, who made the final decision in the appointment.

Ashburn will be sworn in and will vote during the next monthly meeting of the Board, which is scheduled for Tuesday, June 14, 6:30pm, at the Board Annex in Barbourville.

District #4 serves the Girdler area of Knox County.
