During the month of January, school systems across the Commonwealth and nation shine the spotlight on their board members. Knox County Public Schools is joining in the celebration by profiling each member.
Knox County’s board members are among more than 850 elected representatives in the Commonwealth’s 171 local school districts being recognized this month for their service.
Dr. Tom Ashburn, Chairman of the Board
Dr. W. Thomas Ashburn has been an active member of the Knox County community since 1988. As a family doctor serving our neighbors, he is deeply invested in Knox County and its students. He has volunteered countless hours towards the well-being of our student-athletes and helped sponsor numerous clubs and organizations.
“We are grateful to have Dr. Ashburn on our board,” said Superintendent Jeremy Ledford. “Beyond bringing his medical background to the table, he also brings community and service. He knows and cares about families in our district and makes decisions based on what is best for their future. That is evident in every question asked and every decision made.”
What is Dr. Ashburn looking forward to most in the future of KCPS?
“I am very excited about the building of the refurbishing of ATC and encouraging of the promotion the career options for the students,” he said noting the major renovation that is set to begin at the school.
He is also excited about the vision launched by Superintendent Ledford. “The board members are very excited and support wholeheartedly the goal of being a top 10% performing district which will require everyone, students, staff, and the board members to strive for excellence in all we do and not settle for anything less.”
Thank you, Dr. Ashburn, for setting a standard of excellence for our students and community.
