Knox Central students win at Cumberland’s World Language Cup

Winners from the World Language Cup at University of the Cumberlands representing Knox Central

Students from several Southeastern Kentucky high schools recently competed for the second annual World Languages Cup at University of the Cumberlands. The event, hosted by the Department of World Languages at Cumberlands, seeks to highlight the importance of international language and cultural programs.

Winners representing Knox Central High School included:
Amber Brown, 1st place award for Writing (Presentational Writing) in Spanish III

Laura Mills, 2nd place award for Reading (Interpretive Reading) in Spanish I

Savanna Gray, 2nd place award for Writing (Presentational Writing) in Spanish III

Joshua Cole, 3rd place award for Writing (Presentational Writing) in Spanish III

Cassidy West, 3rd place award for Reading (Interpretive Reading) in Spanish II

The World Languages Cup was inspired in part by UC’s annual math competition and from similar showcases hosted by the Kentucky World Language Association. Event organizers plan to continue partnering with area high schools and hope more schools and students participate in future world languages events.

Peggy Johnson served as sponsor for the students attending from Knox Central and teaches Spanish at the school.
