Whether it’s at home, in childcare, early morning, or at bedtime, the joy of reading to children can be found anytime and anyplace.
Knox County Public Library joined Partners for Rural Impact (PRI) and Save the Children as the guest speaker during the first Pre-K Cafe, which was held at Central Elementary.
The organizations shared with families the importance of reading to their children and challenged students to complete the Reading Challenge: 1000 Books Before Kindergarten.
“I am grateful for all Knox County Public Library does to create exciting programs that have our students falling in love with reading,” said Sabrina Cross, school coordinator for Full Service Community Schools at PRI.
“I can’t wait to see how many students complete the 1000 books before Kindergarten Challenge.”
Books are available at all Knox County elementary schools for families of future preschool and kindergarten students to pick up, for free, to read to their children. Of course, books are also available for check-out at the Knox County Public Schools.
Cross added, “I would love to give a shout-out to Mrs. Morgan Hinkle and Mrs. Vernetta Brock for all of their hard work and dedication to our Pre- K students at Central Elementary.”
Families may also contact the district’s Save the Children early childhood coordinator, Chad Henson, for books and other resources. Call (606)645-2830 or email chad.henson@knox.kyschools.us.
