With the summer of ’22 behind us, it is time for Knox County’s high school juniors to start making plans for the summer of 2023.

One of the most prestigious summer programs is the Governor’s Scholars Program (GSP).  Rising seniors can spend part of their summer on a college/university campus learning and having fun.  Best of all, the program prepares students for high school graduation as many institutions recognize participation in GSP and award complete, or nearly full, paid scholarships to attend their school.

The Program originated in 1983 as a result of Kentucky leaders’ concern that the state’s “best and brightest” were leaving the Commonwealth to pursue educational and career opportunities elsewhere without fully understanding the potential of their talents at home.

Students who are selected attend GSP without charge.

Knox Central and Lynn Camp juniors interested in GSP should contact their high school guidance counselor for a listing of deadlines specific to Knox County.  The information packet will also contain helpful tips and how-to’s when it comes to completing the application.

Students who are intending on applying for GSP 2023 should send an email to:  dualcredit@knox.kyschools.us with their name and school.  Even if students are not completely sure they will submit an application, they should still email their intent as it helps the school district prepare for the number of people needed to review applications.

Fatemia Fuson at Knox Central and Deanna Dozier at Lynn Camp are school-level points of contact for the program.  District-level questions may be sent to the email above.
