Dear Knox Central High School Families,
We want to make you aware of a situation involving a Knox Central High School student who made an online post implying a threat. The school was alerted to the post. Although it was unclear whether the threat was directed at the school or a specific individual or group outside the school, additional safety measures were put into place out of an abundance of caution.
We worked closely with law enforcement to identify the source of the post and the student involved. School Resource Officers and members of the Knox County Sheriff’s Department were on campus while the matter was investigated.
Please know that we take our students’ safety and well-being seriously, both inside and outside the classroom. We appreciate students, parents, and staff members who bring concerning information to our attention. Making a threat can result in serious disciplinary and legal consequences. Local law enforcement has pledged to always pursue appropriate action.
We encourage families to use this situation as an opportunity to talk with students about responsible use of sharing digital images and messaging. Digital communication can be valuable, but what students post, view, or share with others can be harmful and have far-reaching consequences.
