Students win at Capital City Welding Classic

The welding team from Knox County Area Technology Center has won top honors and scholarships after competing in the Capital City Welding Classic held on Friday, January 16th.

The event, held at Franklin County Career and Technology Center, allowed career and technical students the opportunity to demonstrate their welding skills while competing for scholarships.

The team from Knox won first place collectively.

Bradley Abner, a senior at Knox Central High School, took first place individual honors and won a full scholarship to Tulsa Welding School.   Leslie Smith, also a senior at Knox Central, won 3rd place honors and received a scholarship valued at 1/4 of tuition to Tulsa Welding School.  Matthew Smith, a junior, and Blake Hinkle, a senior, both also from Knox Central,  each received a $500 scholarship for being part of winning team.

Tulsa Welding School has locations in Tulsa, Jacksonville, and Houston.   Their adviser at Knox County ATC is Monty Bingham.
