Second grade students at Lynn Camp Elementary School were in shock and surprise when Santa paid an early visit to the school on Friday, December 3rd.  Joining Santa was his helpers from Union College’s student KEA (Kentucky Education Association) chapter.

The event was part of Union’s KEA outreach project to distribute books to second grade students.  The members of this organization set out with one goal in mind: to put at least one book in the hands of the students.

Santa paid a special visit to make the book giveaway fun for the children, but helpful at the same time.  According to Jennifer King, a member of Union’s KEA chapter, “Although we try to make sure the event is fun, our main goal is to put books in the hands of children here in Knox County.”

Special guest Phyllis Robinette, a children’s book author, read one of her seven books “The Candy House Angel” to the students.  After the story was over, each child was given the opportunity to sit on Santa’s lap and share with him their wish list for Christmas.    The children were also given special presents with their names on them. The presents were the books for the children to enjoy throughout the Christmas season.
