Two marketing students from the Knox County Public Schools are advancing to national competition after proving their knowledge in human management and retail merchandising at the 2013 Kentucky State DECA Leadership Conference.
In total, sixteen students from Knox Central and Lynn Camp placed in the top ten of their competitive event category at the state competition which was held March 10-12 in Louisville. Lynn Camp’s Kaylee Duncum and Knox Central’s Briana Mollett now advance to the 2013 International Career Development Conference to be held in Anaheim, CA this April. Duncum placed third in human resources management and Mollett placed fourth in retail merchandising.
DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the world. This is the first year for the DECA program at Knox Central, which is under the direction of advisor Gina Martin. Lynn Camp’s DECA chapter has won regional and state competitions each year and is advised by Selina Deaton.
