Cadets from the Panther Battalion and Wildcat Detachment JROTC took honors at the annual Pine Mountain League Raider competition.
The competition was held on Saturday, November 23, at Thomas Walker High School in Ewing, VA. Teams competed against cadets from Middlesboro, Whitley County, Harlan County and Corbin High School in Kentucky.
Knox’s teams took four first place honors in Academics, Obstacle Course, Archery and Tug A War, and two second places in Cross County Relay and Rope Bridge.
Command Sergeant Major Keith Hembree shared that Knox students were tied with other schools for much of the competition.
“During the first round of the Academic challenge, Knox tied for first with Corbin, then during a tie breaker, Knox and Corbin tied a second time,” said Hembree.
“The tie was finally broken when the team Captain from Corbin and Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Herman Brown, Wildcat Detachment Commander, went one on one in a final tie breaker,” Hembree explained.
In the end, Brown came away victorious giving Knox the win and first place trophy in the hard fought challenge.
