Governor’s Cup season kicks off in Knox

Middle school students in Knox County have showcased their skills in content areas, quick recall, and future problem solving as the 2015 Governor’s Cup season kicks off.

Students from Barbourville, Knox County, and Lynn Camp middle schools are this year’s first group of Governor’s Cup participants at the district level of competition.   Their competition was held on January 17th at Barbourville City School.   Elementary and high school teams will compete at the district level in the upcoming weeks.

Governor’s Cup consists of eight events including five written exams (Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts and Arts/Humanities), composition, quick recall, and future problem solving.   Winners at the district level will advance to regional and state competition in middle and high school, and regional competition at the elementary school level.

Knox County’s district middle school winners were:

Mathematics Assessment – Abram Mills, 1st place, Knox County Middle; Laura Beth Mills, 3rd place, Knox County Middle; and Tahlia Brummett, 4th place, Lynn Camp Middle

Science Assessment – Abram Mills, 2nd place, Knox County Middle; Brennan Warfield, 3rd place, Lynn Camp Middle; Johnny Gray, 4th place, Knox County Middle; and Savannah Ross, 5th place, Knox County Middle

Composition – Savanna Gray, 1st place, Knox County Middle; Emily Mills, 3rd place, Knox County Middle; and Kaitlyn Harmon, 5th place, Lynn Camp Middle

Social Studies Assessment – Nicholas Ore, 1st place, Knox County Middle; Brennan Warfield, 3rd place, Lynn Camp Middle; and Wesley Lawson, 4th place, Knox County Middle

Language Arts Assessment – Savannah Ross, 2nd place, Knox County Middle; Jenna Davis, 4th place, Knox County Middle

Arts and Humanities Assessment – Jazmine Blevins, 1st place, Knox County Middle; Kim Collett, 3rd place, Lynn Camp Middle; Nicholas Ore, 4th place, Knox County Middle; Logan Owens, 5th place, Knox County Middle; and Abigail Sharp, 5th place, Lynn Camp Middle

Future Problem Solving – Knox County Middle School, 2nd place
