Lynn Camp Schools are conducting a variety of fundraiser events to help support the Gail Brown Memorial Scholarship Fund at the school.
“Since our beloved assistant principal, Gail Brown, passed away suddenly in the summer of 2011 we have tried to find numerous ways to honor her generous spirit and loving memory,” said assistant principal Nicki Hammons.
“One of the ways we have done this is by creating a scholarship fund for a deserving Lynn Camp student in her name.”
In honor of Brown’s birthday, which would have been on March 23, the school conducted a penny wars contest to benefit the scholarship fund. Students brought in pennies, nickels, dollars, and checks daily to help contribute.
“This year we were blessed with a total amount of $ 708.00 to be added to the scholarship fund,” said Hammons.
The class that collected the most money during the penny war was Shelia Bargo’s. Students were rewarded with a cake, cupcakes, ice cream, and a free period in the school gymnasium.
The school has already scheduled the next fundraiser to benefit the fund. The first annual egg-strordinary easter egg hunt will be held on Saturday, April 12.
For an admission fee of $3 per child, students will participate in age level hunts for an opportunity to win prizes including $20 cash and donations from local merchants including Finleys, FroYo, Snappy Tomato, B&H Shoes, and Papa Johns Pizza.
Toddlers through kindergarten will have their hunt on the softball field at 10am. First through third grade will be held on the baseball field at 10:30. Fourth through fifth grade will be held on the lower football field at 11am.
All area children are invited to participate in the egg hunt.
