Fashion designs win at annual FCCLA convention

Piece by piece, two fashion design students at Lynn Camp Schools stitched together top honors at the annual statewide FCCLA convention held in Louisville this week.

Taylor Swafford won 3rd place honors in the Fashion Design event.   Swafford was required to develop a clothing label, research the intended audience, design the label’s first 6-piece collection, and construct one collection sample using an original flat pattern.

Miranda Miller won 4th place honors in the Fashion Construction event. Using new materials, Miller was required to construct in advance a garment or ensemble that dresses both the upper and lower body of a child or adult. The garment or ensemble was required to include at least eight fashion construction techniques.

“These you ladies have worked tirelessly on their fashion pieces and represented Lynn Camp and Knox County with class,” said Jodie Carnes, adviser for the group.

FCCLA, which stands for Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, is the career and technical student organization for students enrolled in family and consumer science classes.
