Elementary students compete for Regional Governor’s Cup awards

Students from 16 schools in the tri-county area gathered together at G.R. Hampton Elementary in Barbourville on Saturday, March 21, to compete for the title of Regional Governor’s Cup champions.

In the elementary (Grade 5 and below) division, students take part in a District and Regional competition.  Governor’s Cup consists of eight events including five written assessment examinations in mathematics, science, social studies, Language Arts and arts/humanities, composition on-demand writing, Quick Recall and Future Problem Solving–an award-winning creative thinking competition.

Winners representing the Knox County Public Schools include:

Math Assessment:  5th Place – Blake Ledford – Jesse D. Lay Elementary

Social Studies Assessment:  1st Place – Blake Ledford – Jesse D. Lay Elementary

Composition Assessment:  4th Place – Emma Abner – Jesse D. Lay Elementary

Arts and Humanities Assessments:  5th Place – Bryce Imel – Jesse D. Lay Elementary

Future Problem Solving Team:  4th Place – Jesse D. Lay Elementary

Quick Recall Team:  4th Place – Jesse D. Lay Elementary

Overall Ranking:  4th Place – Jesse D. Lay Elementary
