DECA students headed to International competition

Two students from Lynn Camp Schools are headed to International competition in Atlanta after winning at the State DECA Conference held March 9-11 in Louisville.

Heather Wilson, a senior at Lynn Camp, earned second place honors in the Quick Serve Restaurant Management competition.  In this competitive event, Wilson was given a description of a specific situation that measures skills, knowledge and attitudes in quick-service restaurant management. The situation required her to demonstrate understanding of marketing and management functions and tasks related to retail establishments, wholesale establishments and manufacturing firms primarily engaged in the quick-serve restaurant industry.

Tiana Simpson, a sophomore, earned fourth place honors in the Hotel and Lodging Management competition.  In this competitive event, Simpson was given a description of a specific situation that measures skills, knowledge and attitudes in hotel and lodging marketing or marketing management. Her situation required her to have an understanding of the functions and tasks of marketing in hotels, motels, lodging services, convention services, and food and beverage services.

Two additional students, Samantha Duncum, a senior, and Jayden Elliott, a freshman, competed at the State Conference but did not place in the finals to qualify for International competition.

Duncum excelled through the preliminary round of Marketing Management.  She was awarded a plaque by Kentucky DECA for Most Outstanding Chapter Member.  Elliott competed in the Principles of Marketing event and performed well on the written part of the event’s competition.

Wilson and Simpson now advance to the International DECA Career Development Conference to be held in Atlanta May 3-6, 2014.
