Information Regarding April 3-5, 2017

Dear Knox County Families,

Our school district is among others that is continuing to face high absenteeism due to on-going spread of influenza (flu) and flu-like symptoms.  The spread of this illness is impacting the health of our students, staff, and their families.

We are notifying you of the decision to cancel school on April 3-5, 2017 due to illness.  These three days leading into our existing spring break will hopefully help reduce the spread of the illness and allow those with symptoms time to recover.

The calendar for the weeks of April 3 and April 10 is as follows:

Monday, April 3                   NTI Non-Traditional Day # 5
Tuesday, April 4                   School Cancelled (This day will be added to the end of year calendar)
Wednesday, April 5             NTI Non-Traditional Day # 6
Thursday, April 6                 Spring Break Begins through Monday, April 10
Tuesday, April 11                School Will Resume
Friday, April 14                    Good Friday – Holiday / Off-Day (No School)

As we approach the end of the school year with many activities and testing being scheduled, we ask that our families take preventive approaches to help reduce the spread of illness.  Simple reminders to wash hands often with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand rub, not to share personal items like drinks, and to cover coughs and sneezes with tissues will aid us in reducing the spread of germs.

The health and well-being of our students and their families is the top priority of the Knox County Public Schools.  If you would like more information about influenza please contact the nurse at your child’s school, your medical professional, or the Knox County Health Department.

Sincerely,

Kelly Sprinkles
Superintendent
