One step closer to a new leader in KCPS

Board members are shown at the table calling the May 4 meeting to order.

The Knox County Board of Education met for a special called meeting Tuesday night following the conclusion of work performed by the superintendent screening committee.  The committee voted at their April 26 meeting to present five recommendations to the Board for superintendent out of the fifteen applications received and reviewed.

The Board received those recommendations from the screening committee on Tuesday as well as the remaining ten candidate applications that were not presented by the screening committee.  Tuesday night was the first time that Board members had access to candidate names and their application packets.

The Board will now review the recommendations and remaining applications, conduct their own reference checks, and set up interviews with potential candidates for superintendent.

When the Board has narrowed down their discussions to one candidate, a special called meeting will be held to vote for the chosen individual for superintendent.  That board agenda notification will include an item that references such action.
