Knox County Public Schools will participate in First Lady Britainy Beshear and Lt. Gov. Jacqueline Coleman’s Coverings for Kids outreach program.

First Lady Beshear announced the program on August 4th, which helps Kentuckians to donate facial coverings directly to local school districts.

The first lady said facial coverings are proven to help reduce the spread of the coronavirus and are critical to reopening schools safely and keeping children, educators and families safe.

“As a mom, nothing is more important to me than protecting each one of Kentucky’s children, as well as the teachers and staff who work hard every day to help them learn and grow,” said Beshear. “Kentuckians generosity is unmatched, and during this pandemic, this program will help ensure each school has enough masks to protect their students and staff.”

Beginning on Tuesday, August 11, Knox County and other participating districts will begin accepting the masks.  Both child- and adult-size facial coverings will be accepted. The coverings can be bought or homemade. There are links to tutorials and patterns that include both child and adult sizes on the Coverings for Kids webpage.

“We appreciate the community getting involved in keeping our students and staff safe,” said Superintendent Kelly Sprinkles.  “The masks will provide opportunities for students to have additional face coverings or unique coverings consisting of designs and themes that can help show their personality.”

Donations may be brought to the district’s Central Office (200 Daniel Boone Drive) or the Knox County Health Department beginning August 11.  The masks will be divided among schools in the district.
