Dewitt Elementary Joins Lay and Girdler as Knox County’s Blue-Rated Elementary Schools

2025-2026 Assessment and Accountability Data Released

Knox County Public Schools leaders made a surprise visit to Dewitt Elementary on Friday morning to announce that the school earned a blue performance rating on last spring’s assessment. The blue rating is the highest overall accountability level designated by the Kentucky Department of Education.

School and district leaders are shown holding a banner recognizing Dewitt as a blue performing school in the gymnasium. The theme for their celebration is space exploration.

The change follows Thursday’s release of the 2025–2026 Kentucky Summative Assessment (KSA) and accountability data. After an error was identified and corrected during data cleanup, Dewitt Elementary’s overall accountability rating moved from green to blue, recognizing the school as a Top 10% Elementary School in Kentucky.

With this correction, Dewitt Elementary joins Jesse D. Lay Elementary and Girdler Elementary as Knox County Public Schools’ three blue-rated schools in the latest state accountability results.

Kentucky’s accountability system uses five color-coded performance levels — blue, green, yellow, orange, and red — with blue representing the highest overall rating. These ratings reflect multiple measures of school performance, including student achievement and academic growth.

“The recognition highlights the hard work and dedication of Dewitt Elementary’s students and school community,” said Superintendent Jeremy Ledford.

“Knox County Public Schools celebrates this well-earned recognition. We are committed to supporting every school as students continue to succeed in making all KCPS schools top 10%.”

The change will be reflected online once the data cleanup period ends. For more information about Kentucky’s assessment and accountability results, visit the Kentucky School Report Card.
