Knox County Public Schools is proud to announce that four schools have been recognized for reaching Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Tier 2 status through the Southeast South Central Educational Cooperative (SESC).
KCPS has implemented PBIS practices for many years as part of its commitment to fostering positive learning environments. This year, four schools advanced to the next level of implementation by completing the PBIS Tier 2 training series offered by SESC. The district proudly recognizes Dewitt Elementary School, Jesse D. Lay Elementary School, Lynn Camp Middle/High School, and Girdler Elementary School for this significant achievement.

“Through their dedication and sustained commitment, these school teams have strengthened their continuum of supports and are prepared to implement evidence-based Tier 2 interventions”, SESC shared with school leaders. “These interventions include strategies such as Check-In/Check-Out (CICO) and targeted academic instructional groups designed to provide timely, structured support to students who need additional assistance.”
Tier 2 supports focus on delivering interventions in real time—placing students in structured, skill-based groups ranging from those needing targeted behavioral and academic reinforcement to those ready to break through barriers toward mastery. This work reflects a strong emphasis on data-driven decision-making, implementation fidelity, and proactive practices that cultivate a positive and supportive school climate.
SESC praises these four schools for their continued dedication to implementing evidence-based practices that support both student achievement and well-being.
