Deadline nears for Governor’s Scholars applications

Knox County juniors who are looking to have a summer filled with learning, networking, and once in a lifetime experiences have just a few weeks remaining to submit their application.

The Governor’s Scholars Program is a summer residential program for outstanding high school students in Kentucky who are rising seniors. The Program originated in 1983 as a result of Kentucky leaders’ concern that the state’s “best and brightest” were leaving the Commonwealth to pursue educational and career opportunities elsewhere without fully understanding the potential of their talents at home. Students who are selected attend the Program without charge.

In 2019, the Governor’s Scholars Program will be held on three different campuses: Bellarmine University, Centre College, and Morehead State University.   Each scholar will be assigned one of three five-week periods to attend, with start dates on June 16, June 22, and June 23.

The deadline for applications to be submitted to the school point of contact is December 7, 2018.   Students who intend on applying are asked to submit a form at http://data.knoxkyschools.com/2019gsp to help the district prepare for the selection process.   Applications must be turned in to Tammy Baker at Knox Central or Deanna Dozier at Lynn Camp by the due date.  Students will be notified by December 17, 2018 as to whether or not their application will move on to the State for their selection process.
