Science Olympiad wins at region, prepares for state

On Saturday, March 18th, 75 students from both Knox Central and Knox Middle competed at the regional Science Olympiad Tournament at Somerset Community College.

Science Olympiad is a STEM competition that has 23 different events for students to compete in–building, testing, and lab events. Three teams from Knox Central and Three teams from Knox Middle competed against other teams from Casey County, Somerset Christian, Barbourville Ind., Madison Southern, Central Hardin, LaRue County, and Glasgow.

“This was the most successful year ever for out Science Olympiad teams”, shared Travis Mills, sponsor for the teams.

Knox Central Team A placed first out of 8 teams and Knox Central Team B placed third. “This is the first team we have ever had two teams from the high school qualify for the state tournament,” said Mills.

Knox County Middle School Team A placed first out of 10 teams and Knox County Middle School Team B placed third. In total, four teams qualified to compete at the state tournament on April 22nd at Western Kentucky University.
