Activities and lots of reading took place during Lay Elementary’s Camp Read a Lot held the week of June 10.

Mrs. Taylor (2nd grade teacher), Mrs. Hammons (5th grade teacher), Rebecca Mills (Comp Care Counselor) and family resource coordinator DeLisa Estes worked together to host the camp.

“Students arrived daily at 9 am and we averaged around 16 students per day,” said Estes. “Each of them received a set of 4 books which we read at camp.”

The teachers had several activities which all centered around reading. The students took the books home with them at the end of the week along with a “Camp Read A Lot” t-shirt. Lunches were provided each day through the summer feeding program.

“We feel that it was very successful and plan to host another literacy week next summer.”
