L3 – Lunch and Literacy at Lay

Jesse D. Lay had it’s first Lunch and Literacy Week from March 20-23 . Parents were given the opportunity to come and have lunch with their children and then talk to the principal and teachers about new school initiatives. Some of the topics that were discussed were kindergarten registration, teacher requests, i-Ready, and the upcoming K-PREP assessment.

The Lunch and Literacy Week event was part of a new Project LINK and Innovative Approaches to Literacy grants that the school district has received.  Each school will be planning creative ways to more actively engage students and parents in reading together.  Both grants were funded by the U.S. Department of Education.

“There were over 100 parents that took time to come and eat lunch with child and learn about what their children are doing in school,” shared principal Keith Broughton.
