Panther Nation has a lot more to cheer for as the number of athletic programs continues to increase at Knox Central High School.

“Knox Central offers a multitude of different athletic participation options,” said Jeff Canady, athletic director for Knox Central and its feeder schools.  “Over the past several years we have added multiple sports to our athletics, we’ve added bowling, fishing, and archery.”

The growing list does not stop there.  “New this year is wrestling and e-sports that will be recruiting athletes and getting their programs started,” said Canady.

With the two new additions for this year, that makes Knox Central High School a leader in the number of athletic extracurricular opportunities available in the region and a top school in the state based on its enrollment and division classes.  Not only can Knox Central boast about having a record number of programs, but they can also point to the numerous success stories and trophies.

“Last year we won seven regional championships in multiple sports,” said Canady.  “Probably the greatest achievement athletically we’ve had at Knox Central.”

Canady commends last year’s seniors for building excitement among the fans and setting the standard for rising players.

“However, the class that is coming up was a huge part of that and will continue to build on the success of Panther Nation.

“I believe our student athletes are learning how to win and there is no reason why we can’t compete against anybody. The environment we are creating is one of success, it becomes contagious.”

In recent years many of Knox Central’s student athletes have gone on to compete at higher levels and received offers from well established collegiate programs.

“A big part of the success of Knox Central athletics is in part to athletic director Jeff Canady,” said principal Jeff Frost.  “Jeff faithfully supports all the athletic programs.  He cares about the students and wants Knox Central to excel in everything!”

Frost continued to say that Canady is constantly seen motivating students, attending their games, and checking on their academics and attendance as well.  “Having Jeff play a role in our attendance program helps him to keep athletes focused on regular attendance and having success in the classroom along with their athletic achievements.”

“As I’ve said before when we pull into a parking lot or someone comes to Knox County, they know they are in for a tough game, no matter what the sport is. We are nobodies push over.”
