Knox County students in grades kindergarten through sixth received a special gift this week thanks to a donation by an international company.
Toms, known for their buy one give one campaign, recently made a donation of shoes to Save the Children’s southeastern Kentucky program. The donation also included socks to go along with each pair of shoes.
Family resource center coordinators, Save the Children coordinators, and other employees happily distributed the shoes and socks at their school.
Save the Children believes every child deserves a future. The shoe donation was one step towards that brighter tomorrow.
“We were excited to receive the news that Toms had partnered with Save the Children to provide our students with their shoes,” said Gina Sears, Director of Pupil Personnel and district coordinator for Save the Children.
“Through this donation and other community donations to our family resource centers, we were able to give a new pair of shoes to every student in grades K through 6,” explained Sears.
Thanks to the generous support of donors, and partnering organizations such as Toms, Save the Children currently works with 37 schools in eight Kentucky counties to deliver education and health programs to over 13,000 children. Kentucky was selected as one of four early adopter states implementing the Save the Children’s new community continuum, a strategy that specifically targets children from prenatal to third grade.
