Apply now for the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council

Superintendent Kelly Sprinkles is looking for students to be a voice for their peers as he puts together the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council for the 2018-2019 school year.

Shown are members of the Superintendent's Student Council during the 2018 school year meeting to discuss topics and ideas.

Student members advise the superintendent on issues relevant to elementary, middle, and high school students throughout the district.  In order to gain valuable feedback from students and to engage student leaders in learning by doing, the student council was created as one of the first acts of Sprinkles upon being named superintendent.  Since then, students have expressed opinion and suggestions concerning AP courses, dual credit, food service, and dress code.

This group will meet with the superintendent and Knox County Public Schools staff to discuss how decisions made at the district level are affecting students and provide insight to how the district implements state and national decisions.

The council is open to all current 6th, 8th, 10th and 12th grade students.  There are no pre-qualifying criteria used, the student must be willing to attend meetings and express his or her opinion, and the opinion they have gathered from their peers, during the council meetings.

Applications are due September 21, 2018 and may be submitted to your school principal, dropped off at Central Office, or mailed to Student Advisory Council, 200 Daniel Boone Drive, Barbourville, Kentucky 40906.

A decision on members will be made in late September with the first meeting tentatively scheduled for the first week of October.  Meetings will take place every one to two months at the Board of Education after school.
