Local law enforcement participates in safety week at Dewitt

Dewitt Elementary safety visit

Members of the Knox County Sheriff’s Office and Stinking Creek Volunteer Fire Department visited students at Dewitt on Thursday, October 19, as part of School Safety Week activities in the district.

Mike Smith, Knox County Sheriff, stated that it was important for him and his deputy’s to make connections with kids.

“The Sheriff’s office conducted safety fingerprinting for children as well as spoke to them about safety issues and showed them a police cruiser,” said Smith.

“It was a great opportunity to create a positive relationship with our youth as well as discuss important safety topics with them.  I would like to thank the staff at Dewitt Elementary for having us.”
